April 3rd, 2019 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated a new project to support a health center in Halhul, a Palestinian city located in the southern West Bank, five kilometers north of Hebron.

The $250,390 project is coordinated with Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Its purpose is to help the center to provide high-quality medical services, reduce the referrals to Hebron hospitals by 30%, and reduce the cost by 30%.

Under the project, 38 medical and office equipment will be procured, turning the center into a comprehensive health facility that operates departments of obstetrics, emergency and trauma, lab, radiology, pharmacy, and outpatient clinics.

Every year, the health center serves up to 4,500 patients, a number likely to increase as the planned supplies are completed and new services are added.

Last year, a bilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by QRCS and PRCS, which manages the health center, to work together on all the administrative, technical, and contracting procedures. “This project is aimed at bridging the gap in medical resources at the health center, enabling it to serve more health care seekers who would formerly have to go to Hebron for treatment,” said Zaina Hamoud, Head of QRCS’s representation office in the West Bank. “We coordinate closely with PRCS to identify and meet the needs of the Palestinian medical sector, within the available resources,” she emphasized.

Since its establishment in 2008, QRCS’s representation mission in the West Bank has implemented numerous relief and humanitarian projects, covering a wide range of sectors, including water and sanitation, health care, infrastructure rehabilitation, and other development interventions that alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. A total of 43 projects have been carried out since 2010, totaling $16.5 million and reaching out to more than 1 million beneficiaries in the West Bank and Al-Quds.
